Praevus

Yacht Engineering

Visit website

An English-language website for Praevus, an engineering consultancy for superyachts. Dark, technical, and built to earn trust with shipyards and owners.

About this project

Mark Hiemstra started Praevus as an engineering consultancy for superyachts. Constructability is what he calls it: making sure what a designer draws can actually be built at the yard. New company, no name recognition, and an audience of shipyards and owners working on yachts of 50 metres and up. They look at a website and form an opinion in about ten seconds.

So, not a standard agency site. Deep navy, gold, and a 3D wireframe wave running behind the headline. English, because his clients are everywhere except the Netherlands. Built on Next.js with Sanity behind it, so Mark can edit his own copy and projects without calling us.

That 3D wave is switched off on mobile. Beautiful is fine, but not when it slows your site down on a phone somewhere in a shipyard. We self-hosted the fonts, deferred the heavy animations, and put the contact form through Resend with a spam filter in front of it.

The site is also set up for AI search. Structured data, an llms.txt, and crawlers from ChatGPT and Perplexity that are explicitly welcome. When someone asks a chatbot who knows their way around MGN 681, we want Praevus in that answer.
